New Zealand gets quite a bit of rain. When it rains too much in a short amount of time you can get flooding which can cause damages to homes and businesses and also cause erosion. In February of 2004 on Te Ika-a-Maui, 235mm of rain fell in just a 19 hour time period causing $300 million worth of  damage from flood and wind damage. The amount of rain that fell during that time was about 4 times as much as the highest amount of rain that Honolulu receives in the whole month of June! (HI Rain)
